Members of the Joint Operational Committee of the South African Police Service in Tshwane are in self-isolation after a member tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday, police spokesman Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo told News24.

Naidoo, however, said that those who were self-isolated “were not the whole of Tshwane’s management.” This occurs after News24 received a notice that the entire unit was isolated.

The members of the committee must remain isolated until May 13.

“If they give negative, they will return to work on the 14ththNaidoo added.

News24 reported Wednesday that the city of Tshwane had closed part of its Disaster Operations Center, which was created to bolster its response to the Covid-19 outbreak, after a police officer stationed there tested positive for the virus.

Tshwane chief administrator Mpho Nawa said the police officer was examined after being admitted for scheduled treatment, unrelated to Covid-19.

“She tested positive after being examined during routine preadmission. She may have been asymptomatic,” Nawa added in a previous report.
