COVID-19 in South Africa: 83 more deaths recorded

JOHANNESBURG – The Department of Health has reported 83 new COVID-19-related deaths in South Africa, bringing the death toll to 15,940.

Most of the deaths in the past 24 hours are from KwaZulu Natal, with the province reporting 52 deaths.

The Eastern Cape (4), Gauteng (5), Western Cape (4) and Limpopo (18) also reported new deaths.

The country has registered 2,029 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 659,656.

More than 589,000 people have recovered from the coronavirus.

South Africa’s COVID-19 recovery rate is 89.4 percent.
