A 31-year-old Cape Town mother and her 32-year-old husband were arrested after an 8-month-old boy died in hospital after he was allegedly brutally beaten.
Baby Levy Isaacs was rushed to the Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town on Friday.
Bishop Lavis’ Family Violence, Child Protection and Sex Crimes Unit (FCS) immediately arrested Bonteheuwel’s couple.
“Members attached to Bishop Lavis FCS arrested two people, ages 32 and 31, on Friday,” said police spokesman Capt. FC van Wyk.
On Monday, the couple appeared in Bishop Lavis Magistrates Court on a murder charge.

Bonteheuwel Councilor Angus McKenzie, who visited the Isaacs’ home, expressed surprise.
“That 8 month old Levy Isaacs was [allegedly] abused by the person who gave birth [him], and for that person’s husband, “McKenzie said.
“I am heartbroken and devastated,” he added. “This is not the people of Bonteheuwel, it is not the society we pretend to be.”
The couple will remain in custody and the case has been postponed until January 22, 2021 for a formal request for bail.
Van Wyk said the state will object to the bond.
“I am going to bring this community together to make sure these parents never have the dignity or joy of seeing the light of day again,” added McKenzie.
