JOHANNESBURG – With mounting pressure on President Cyril Ramaphosa to ease the blockade, the South African Congress of Trade Unions (Cosatu) is the last to urge the government to reduce to level 3 as soon as possible.
On Monday, the union federation said the COVID-19 pandemic had deepened the economic crisis with restrictions on several companies.
He said that South Africa lacked the resources to allow the economy to function minimally.
Spokeswoman Sizwe Pamla said it was important that most workers return to their jobs as soon as it was safe.
“We believe that we need to be guided by experts, we must make sure that we continue to have these conversations and that we are flexible when it comes to decision making and the criticisms that we are taking in terms of impact.”
