It is understood that he was transferred to the hospital because the prison cannot provide him with the medical care he needs.

JOHANNESBURG – Fraud and corruption suspect Angelo Agrizzi was rushed to hospital after his first night in prison.

His request for bail was dismissed by the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Wednesday after the state argued he was at risk of flight.

Agrizzi was indicted yesterday in connection with alleged payments to former ANC Member of Parliament Vincent Smith in the amount of R800,000 for Bosasa.

Agrizzi’s attorney, Attorney Mannie Witz, has said Eyewitness news that his client was not trying to make a “Schabir Shaik” move in the court system.

Shaik was convicted of corruption, but spends most of his sentence free after claiming he has a serious medical condition.

Witz said he did his best to emphasize in court yesterday that Agrizzi’s medical condition was too serious to be sent to prison.

He explained that his client was permanently on oxygen as he had pre-existing medical conditions that would worsen with prison.

The court dismissed Agrizzi’s application on the grounds that he did not disclose his financial assets, including money deposited in accounts abroad.

You have already filed an appeal of the dismissal of your bond application.
