Obed Bapela, the Vice Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), tested positive for Covid-19.

Cabinet spokesman Phumla Williams said Bapela tested positive after showing symptoms. He’s in self-quarantine.

It was the fourth Bapella test for the coronavirus since the outbreak of the pandemic.

“We wish Vice Minister Bapela, his family, as well as the thousands of South Africans fighting the pandemic, a speedy recovery,” Williams said.

“The Deputy Minister has urged all South Africans to play their role and continue to observe all health protocols, such as washing and sanitizing their hands regularly, wearing a mask that covers the nose and mouth, and practicing social distancing at all times.” .
