JOHANNESBURG – Willah Mudolo, one of the co-defendants of the self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri, has been denied bail in Pretoria Magistrates Court.
Mudolo is the latest suspect accused of being involved in the alleged fraud of members of the Illuminated Christian Church.
The court has ruled that Mudolo was at risk of flight after he allegedly tried to flee the country three times before being arrested at OR Tambo International Airport in October.
Mudolo faces charges of fraud, theft and money laundering in the amount of more than R106 million, along with his wife Zethu, Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary, as well as Landiwe Sindani.
In handing down her sentence, Justice Thandi Theledi emphasized that her decision was not influenced by the behavior of the Bushiris.
The controversial pastor and his wife fled to Malawi in violation of their bail conditions after their release on bail.
