South Africa’s National Energy Regulator (Nersa) has terminated the appointment of its chief executive, Chris Forlee, according to a letter signed by the regulator’s chairman, Jacob Modise.
Nersa is responsible for regulating the country’s electricity sector by approving rates and issuing licenses.
The termination of Forlee’s appointment is a consequence of his suspension in April. Before a date could be set for his disciplinary investigation, Forlee proposed a settlement, which was negotiated and led to the termination of his appointment, according to the letter.
“The termination follows an agreement reached by Nersa and Forlee. Details of the agreement remain undisclosed under the terms of the termination agreement,” it states.
The letter stated that while Nersa is initiating a process to appoint a permanent replacement CEO, the group’s Executive Manager of Corporate Services, Advocate Nomalanga Sithole, will act as interim CEO with administrative powers only.
