Amakhosi brings 20 players to Cameroon

The Kaizer Chiefs have brought a traveling contingent of 20 of their 30 registered players for the CAF Champions League to Limbe, southwest Cameroon, for the first leg of the preliminary round of the 2020 CAF Champions League. -21 against PWD Bamenda.

The Chiefs will face the newly crowned Cameroonian champions on Sunday, November 29, 2020 in the first leg at Omni Sports Stadium in Limbe, kick-off at 4:00 p.m. South Africa time.

Amakhosi left OR Tambo airport for Cameroon via Addis Ababa in Ethiopia just before midnight on Thursday. They landed in Douala, Cameroon, shortly after 11:30 am local time this morning. After a two hour bus ride you will arrive in Limbe.

Coach Gavin Hunt welcomes defender Erick Mathoho, who has been serving a sanction in the national league, but is now available for selection if the coach wishes to line him up against the Cameroonians. Hunt himself has a lot of experience when it comes to African club competition; however, he has never played against a Cameroonian rival.

This is Hunt’s fifth campaign in Africa’s premier club competition, having participated three times with SuperSport United, while most recently leading BIDVest Wits when they entered the tournament in 2017 and 2018.

Hunt will be supported on the sidelines in Limbe by assistant coach Arthur Zwane, goalkeeping coach Lee Baxter and a full technical team. Assistant coach Dillon Sheppard has stayed on to work with the players who have not traveled as they will continue their usual training regimen at the Club’s base in Naturena.

While the Chiefs have a number of players who have yet to compete in African club competition, they have highly experienced players like Khama Billiat, Leonardo Castro, Lazalous Kambole, Anthony Agay, Itumeleng Khune and Erick Mathoho.

In the 18th August 2018 when he scored three goals in the space of five minutes. He scored his first goal in 39th minute and then scored his second in a minute and completed his hat-trick in 43rd minute to set the record, for the fastest hattrick in the competition.

The referee and match attendants are from Gabon, while the match commissioner will be from the Central African Republic.

The bosses will train at 15:00 local time in Limbe on Friday afternoon.
