Cape Town – Zane Killian, alleged co-conspirator in the murder of Anti-Gang Unit detective Charles Kinnear has now also been linked to the attempted murder of prominent Cape Town attorney William Booth.
Killian’s attorney, Eric Bryer, said they dropped his request for bail in Bellville Regional Court because they feared he would be arrested again for Booth’s attempted murder if bail was granted.
Killian will now appear as defendant number five along with four suspects who were previously arrested for the attempted murder on Booth. They are due to appear in Cape Town Magistrates Court today.
His application for bail was postponed after hearing that additional charges would be added to the charge sheet.
Hawks spokeswoman Philani Nkwalase said that as part of her bail offer, Killian submitted a questionable security certificate in an attempt to justify why she pinged Kinnear’s phone.
Nkwalase said the Hawks’ serious organized preliminary investigation established that the certificate was allegedly fraudulent.
Meanwhile, he said in a separate matter, Kilian was also indicted for his alleged involvement in Booth’s assassination attempt, where he is alleged to have been involved in tracing Booth’s phone.
On April 9, Booth survived an apparent assassination attempt after two armed suspects wearing surgical masks fired multiple shots at his home. Nkwalase said he (Killian) was expected to appear in Cape Town Magistrates Court today as the fifth defendant in the case, facing charges of attempted murder, violation of the Electronic Transactions and Communications Act, and violation of regulation. Interception of Communications and Communications provisions. related to Law 70 of 2000.
Bryer said the defense team made the decision not to proceed with the bail request because it would have been “stupid.”
Bryer said he discussed the matter with the state and said it was better for them to complete all investigations within a month, so they don’t go “back and forth” and repeat the whole process.
“We will be dealing with the ping side in the future, but it is common that I was not in Cape Town at the time of filming Kinnear and the person in the images is a quarter the size of Killian,” he said. He said.
Eric Ntabazalila, a spokesman for the National Tax Authority (NPA), said the case against Kilian was postponed until November 27 to request a formal bond.
“The NPA can also confirm that a fraud charge has been added to the charge sheet. This is related to documents that were presented by the defense on October 9 in Bishop Lavis Magistrates Court where they emphasized that what the defendant did, that is, ping Kinnear’s phone, was part of his job, “he said. Ntabazalila.
“He said he did not commit any crime. After the investigation, it was learned that the accused was not registered as a private investigator with the Regulatory Authority of the Private Security Industry (PSiRA), ”said Ntabazalila.
