The Rand’s better performance since February offset by stronger international oil prices.

The Automobile Association (AA) has released its final fuel price prediction for December and only gasoline vehicle users benefit from an early present at the pumps.

Commenting on the second and final unaudited data report released by the Central Energy Fund on Friday (November 27), the AA said it expects the price of gasoline to drop 27 cents a liter compared to 36 cents, while that diesel, which was set for a decrease of four cents, will instead increase by 13 cents and paraffin lighting by 22 cents.

“International prices for refined fuel products soared just before mid-month, but then fell back. Gasoline recovered its losses to end up in positive territory, while diesel moved further into negative territory, ”the association said in a statement, adding that the Rand’s performance against the dollar, which saw it strengthen to a high of R15.15, rated its best last seen in February.

However, he stated that, “the fly in the ointment is that the international price of refined fuels has tended to rise in the last ten days, so we hope it does not spoil the party. It has been a long time since a stronger Rand was able to come to the rescue of South Africa’s fuel users, and if the current trend continues, the country appears poised to improve fuel price stability as we enter 2021 ”.
