JOHANNESBURG – Police Minister Beki Cele warns that if anything other than tea is found in kettles, restaurants will lose their business licenses.

The minister said Tuesday that police were aware of the tricks used by some business owners who disobeyed the alcohol ban last time and that officials would not hesitate to act.

If you refuse to wear a mask, you will face a fine or even jail, or both.

Attorneys for Deputy Human Rights Director Wayne Ncube said Wednesday that police would not just load people into vans without warning.

He said officers would ask him to comply and would only arrest him if he refused to wear a mask.

“Technically speaking, people shouldn’t be arrested for not wearing a mask. It is the non-compliance when requesting that could cause someone to be arrested. In addition to that, there is a directive from the Ministry of Justice that says that people who are arrested for minor offenses must be released on bail and have a date to return to court. ”
