JOHANNESBURG – Police Minister Bheki Cele said they were grateful that no residents were injured in Wednesday’s botched cash-in-transit robbery in Dawn Park.

The minister met with community members on Wednesday night after a shooting killed five suspects.

Two other thieves were arrested after police were notified of the crime.

Authorities managed to recover some of the stolen money, along with four firearms and three allegedly stolen vehicles.

The minister said police received a tip moments before the crime was carried out.

“The information was collected and the police were aware that this was going to happen. Then it happened, they ran and came here. The police chased him, then someone opened fire on the police. “

Wednesday’s robbery comes just two days after criminals carried out a cash in transit at Evaton.
