  • Police Minister Bheki Cele has urged the men to stop mistreating and raping women and children.
  • It says that the police have a responsibility to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and dealt with by the law.
  • He was reacting to the murder of a mother and her five children in the Eastern Cape, who were beaten to death with an ax.

Police Minister Bheki Cele called on the men to stop the violence against women and children after an Eastern Cape man allegedly beat his wife and five children to death with an ax.

According to police, the 34-year-old has since been arrested.

“It is the responsibility of the police to ensure that those who carry out such horrible acts are arrested and dealt with under the laws of this country,” Cele said in a statement.

“However, such arrests only occur after the fact and, in many cases, after lives are destroyed and lost. So I appeal to men, I urge everyone to stop brutalizing and raping women and children … it’s that simple. ”

The 42-year-old woman and her children, aged between six months and 10 years, were attacked with an ax, which authorities said was the same weapon found at the crime scene.

“The police then launched their network to find the husband of the deceased mother who the detectives thought could help in their investigations. Within 24 hours after the heinous crime, the police arrested the husband, a citizen of Zimbabwe,” he said Police Ministry spokesman Lirandzu Themba.
