Cape Town – A Mitchells Plain attorney is being charged with ordering food from a caterer, but is now refusing to pay for it.

Lauren Reid of Strandfontein sells frozen food and sometimes gives her customers food on credit.

She says she gave the lawyer R5 240 food two months ago and has not been paid despite numerous attempts to get her money.

“I supply people with various products and this lawyer placed an order and promised to pay, but never did. He was supposed to pay me last month, ”explains Lauren.

She says she is tired of his “stories” and now she has supposedly gotten rude.

“My husband went to their Rocklands offices and they were rude to him.

“He blocked our numbers and when we called his office number, he threatened to charge consultation fees while we called his workplace.”

She says her business took a hit due to unpaid debt.

“We couldn’t pay our suppliers and we can’t get things on credit now because we didn’t make a payment. So it became difficult to supply our paying customers. “

Attorney Johndry Miljiet first denied that he owed Lauren any money, but later admitted that he owed her more than R5,000.

However, he says he refused to pay because the food “was not there.”

“I will sue them if they defame me. The food they sold me was turned off, besides, are they registered? Are they debt collectors? “

Surprised, Lauren said it was the first time she had heard that she had no food.

“He ate the food and now he’s canceling it, but he didn’t come here and complain,” he says.

The small business owner said she will seek legal advice on how to get her money back.
