CAPE TOWN – Capitec said the double deductions experienced by several customers on Friday were caused by Nedbank.

According to Capitec, a technical problem in Nedbank’s systems affected billing at its point of sale terminals.

Double payments

Earlier Friday morning, several Capitec clients woke up with shock after thousands saw additional deductions from their accounts without their consent.

Capitec spokesman Charl Nel said the bank was in the process of reversing the double withdrawal and that cardholders would receive the refund within 24 hours.

“In this transaction process, something went technically wrong. That bank requested the money twice. Some customers will see a double deduction on their account. Our IT team and the IT team of that other bank (Nedbank) are working together to resolve this as quickly as possible. “

Capitec said they took the error seriously and were working with Nedbank to rectify the error as quickly as possible.

“We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”
