Capitec confirmed on Friday morning that some of its clients were affected by a double deduction from their bank accounts in the same transaction.
Customers who used other, as yet unnamed bank card machines have seen amounts skyrocket twice in the early hours of Friday morning.
“We are aware that there is a technical problem between us and another bank that has caused Capitec clients who made transactions on this bank’s card machines to have a double deduction.
“Our IT team is working to rectify the problem and transactions will be reversed quickly within the next 24 hours,” the bank said in a statement.
The bank did not specify how many customers were affected, but they were to receive an SMS notification from Capitec.
A Capitec spokesperson declined to name the other bank.
On social media, many Capitec customers complained about double deductions:
Please! I want my money back. I’m already having a bad day from this
