The scene outside Charl Kinnear’s home in Bishop Lavis.
High-profile police investigator in Cape Town, Charl Kinnear, was shot and killed in front of his home in Bishop Lavis on Friday, News24 can confirm.
This was confirmed shortly after 3pm by numerous security sources.
The SAPS Provincial Commissioner’s office was heading to the scene.
Mayco member of Cape Town for Security, JP Smith, had been alerted to the shooting, which appears to be a murder.
Smith told News24: “We cannot attribute the murder to any group yet. But what is clear is that organized crime is getting more and more blatant.”
Smith urged Police Minister Bheki Cele to urgently convene a task force today in the wake of the police investigator’s death.
“This is a massive wake-up call for SAPS and the National Fiscal Authority.”
Smith said Cele had promised this week that she would convene a task force, and this was now even more urgent.
This is a story in development.
