A second person was arrested after seven people, including a woman in a wheelchair, were injured during a shooting at a taxi rank in Cape Town’s financial district.

The second person was arrested in connection with the shooting on the roof of the Cape Town station around 12:00 on Monday.

Police spokesman Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said a 39-year-old suspect was arrested and a firearm seized.

Shots were also fired on Marine Drive, Strand Street and Buitenkant Street as the attackers fled from the deck of Cape Town station.

A woman in a wheelchair and six men were rushed to hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds.

A 31-year-old suspect was arrested Monday by a subway police officer and a 9mm firearm was confiscated.

Western Cape Transport MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela said a Langa association went on deck to warn against using the route by Central Unity (CUTA) and the shooting broke out, Voice of the Cape reported.

MEC spokesman Ntomboxolo Makhoba-Somdaka told News24 that the MEC will meet with leaders of the taxi industry on Tuesday afternoon.
