An ANC Cape Town councilor has been arrested for allegedly driving under the influence on New Year’s Eve.

According to Fiona Abrahams, spokeswoman for the Cape Town City ANC committee, the party had “learned with surprise of the arrest of one of its councilors.”

“As ANC, we take the matter very seriously and believe that the law must take its course and the person [must] be taken to the book. We also believe that the law applies to everyone, regardless of their position in society, “Abrahams said.

“We will take the matter to the ANC [regional executive committee] for further investigation and possible disciplinary action against the councilor in question. ”
