On December 18, representatives of the EFF in the province visited the farm.
The party claimed that it had established that the farmer treated the workers like animals and subjected them to all kinds of inhumane treatment.
The EFF accused the farmer of locking up his workers in spaces where they live in structures without basic amenities, such as water and toilets.

“The human rights of agricultural workers are violated daily by farmers who violate labor laws with impunity. Enough is enough and a case has been opened against the farmer and has also been reported to the South African Human Rights Commission. [SAHRC]. We ask the forces of order to do their job and that the law take its course.
“We call on the farmer to be arrested immediately and stand up to the long arm of the law. He must also be held accountable for the inhumane treatment of workers on his farm. The EFF as part will help the affected family to seek a huge cost of compensation, “said the EFF.
The party asked the SAHRC, the Legal Aid Board and internal legal organizations to work together to help the victim obtain justice.
Western Cape Police Spokesperson Capt. FC van Wyk confirmed that a case of assault with the intent to cause serious bodily harm had been opened at the Worcester Police Station.
Van Wyk said police have yet to arrest any suspects.
Meanwhile, the SAHRC could not confirm to News24 whether the EFF had registered a complaint.
