Kris and Caitlyn Jenner finalized their divorce in December 2014 after 23 years of marriage, something the former Olympian says has nothing to do with her identity.
In a candid new interview, Caitlyn, 70, spoke about her transition and divorce from Kris, mentioning how there were “bigger issues” at play that led to the split.
“After twenty-three years, Kris and I went in separate directions,” he explained on Literally! Featuring Rob Lowe’s podcast (via Mirror). “My identity … was not a big part of our separation. There were many other bigger issues out there.”
Caitlyn announced her transition with an iconic Vanity Fair cover in June 2015. She said at the time, “I’m so happy after such a long struggle to live my true self. Welcome to the world Caitlyn. I can’t wait for you to meet her / me.”
In their separation, the keeping up with the Kardashians star continued that there was a “frustration with myself” during that time, which led to her being “a little lower with [Kris] near the end.”
But, he added, once they broke up, their relationship lifted a weight. “Then all of a sudden we had no problem. You know, just, you know, everything was quiet.
“She even found [my new] place, decorated the place, made everything in Malibu. And she said, ‘I want you to feel comfortable. And that was it, you know? “
In June, Kylie and Kendall Jenner celebrated the fifth anniversary of Caitlyn’s transition. “When my father came out as transgender, our relationship grew,” Kendall told People magazine at the time. “She was finally able to be honest with me. Because of my father’s courage, I have learned to love what I love and not be ashamed of it.
“She has been my role model since before I can remember, from sports to now with her wisdom. She is so brave and I aspire to be as brave as her one day.”
