A 32-year-old businessman from Botshabelo, Free State, found himself behind bars this weekend after he was allegedly found with an allegedly stolen frozen chicken worth approximately R270,000.
The frozen products were taken from a hijacked truck in the Bloemfontein area.
Petty Officer Lynda Steyn said the Serious Organized Crimes Investigation unit received information Thursday about alleged stolen property hidden in a notorious butcher shop. The goods were suspected of coming from a hijacked Lesotho truck.
The truck was transporting frozen chicken worth an estimated R270,000 when it was allegedly kidnapped.
When the police received the information, they quickly swooped in and arrested the alleged perpetrator, who will appear in the Botshabelo trial court on Monday.
“A joint operation … descended on the facility with a search warrant and resulted in the discovery of various types of frozen chicken boxes and other stolen items.
“The team headed to the N8 next to Verkeerdevlei Road, where the hijacked R450,000 truck was recovered. No injuries were reported to the driver during the time of the infraction, ”Steyn said.
Meanwhile, all the recovered items were turned over to the legal owners who traveled from Lesotho.
Investigations continue.
