JOHANNESBURG – A bus has been hijacked in Orchards, north of Pretoria, allegedly by striking taxi drivers.
The city of Tshwane said officials were unsure whether the female driver managed to get off the bus before it was stolen and that her colleagues were still trying to locate her.
The police have been notified.
The city has confirmed that the passengers were forced off the bus while on their way to work this morning.
For now, the metro has withdrawn all its bus services for safety reasons.
Notice to the passenger: keep in mind that one of our buses has been hijacked by taxi drivers with the driver, while on other routes passengers are expelled and forced to leave the buses. With this we have to call all our buses to the station. @TMPDSafety @Selbybok

Meanwhile, the National Taxi Alliance (NTA) insists its members are conducting a peaceful strike in the capital.
The alliance expects hundreds of its members to meet at Marabastad in Pretoria starting at 7 am.
They will march to the Department of Transportation and then to Union Buildings to deliver a list of complaints.
Taxi operators want the government to explain why the COVID-19 relief fund promised to the industry has yet to materialize.
NTA spokesman Theo Malele said that while everyone had been urged to participate in today’s march, workers who were not on strike would not be intimidated.
‘VIOLENCE NOT ACCEPTABLE’
The National Taxi Alliance has urged the police to step in and deal with any striking member who violates the law.
Malele from the NTA said violence was not acceptable.
“We do not tolerate that, this is not what we agreed to. We agreed that we will drive the roads to Pretoria, where we will present our complaints and this we will do peacefully. This is not in our nature.”
Meanwhile, taxis are also causing major traffic jams in Johannesburg.
Wayne Minnaar from Joburg Metropolitan Police: “Traffic is very heavy on the N1 North at 14th Avenue. This is due to the taxi operators, who have blocked the N1. Traffic is moving very slowly towards Beyers Naude, so that more agents have been dispatched to that location to help with traffic. “
