Lieutenant General Yolisa Mokgabudi, CI’s Acting Director.
The Criminal Intelligence (CI) division has been asked to cease illegal surveillance and interception of a News24 journalist following a series of reports detailing the riots at the highest echelons of the police.
In a letter to Lieutenant General Yolisa Mokgabudi, CI’s acting director, attorney Willem de Klerk, demanded that “those within Crime Intelligence who participate in these activities be immediately ordered to cease any further illegal interception of the communication of News24 journalists, their surveillance and / or general intimidation. “
The letter was also sent to Judge Bess Nkabinde, who is the designated judge charged with authorizing lawful interceptions in terms of the Interception and Communication Regulation Act (RICA), and Setlhomamare Dintwe, the intelligence inspector general (IGI). Mokgabudi’s office has confirmed receipt of the letter.
