ANC general secretary Ace Magashule must step aside pending the outcome of his fraud and corruption case, or he will be suspended, the party’s integrity commission recommended.
In its three-page report to the ANC’s national executive committee (NEC), the commission says the decisions of the party conference should be implemented “without fear or favor.”
In its recommendations, it cites the resolution stating that the ANC members who are formally accused must stand down until their cases are finalized.
If officials have not yet developed clear guidelines on this process, “those people will be instructed to step aside,” the resolution reads.
According to the report, Magashule has indicated that it will abide by the decisions of the NEC, but if this does not happen, the NEC should consider suspending it in accordance with Rule 25.70 of the party constitution, according to the report.
It is up to the NEC to decide how to act on this report.
