Cape Town – Brackenfell High School (SGB) governing body will have to wait two more weeks for a Western Cape High Court ban to prevent EFF from marching on the school

Judge Siraj Desai postponed his request on Monday, but the party plans to march back to the school on Friday.

On Tuesday of last week, members of Brackenfell High SGB filed for an urgent injunction to prevent the EFF from protesting at the school. However, Judge Desai denied them the injunction, to give the EFF time to respond.

The two parties met in a virtual meeting on Monday and the case was postponed until December 2.

Last Thursday, the SGB issued a statement distancing itself from the violence that occurred outside the school gates last Monday. Included in the statement was the school’s decision to address student and parent concerns, as well as plans to engage students and educators in structured diversity training sessions.

EFF Western Cape President Melikhaya Xego said the party is not satisfied with the simple rumors of integration initiatives and investigations into racism at school.

“We know they don’t care about the interests of people of color and they never sat down with us, who exposed exactly what was going on at school.

” As far as we know, there have been no resolutions with this case. We will visit the school again on Friday, which is already underway, ”Xego said.

Meanwhile, the Western Cape Department of Education (WCED) is currently working with the school to address pressing racial issues that have been reported by both students and parents.

In a statement released by WCED, spokesperson Bronagh Hammond said that as WCED “we believe that there should be a greater emphasis on diversity in the school because it is a value that we appreciate.”

“Therefore, we will involve the school in this in the coming weeks,” Hammond said.
