The city of Cape Town and the South African Police Service (SAPS) have advised residents to avoid the vicinity of Brackenfell High School on Friday as 100 EFF supporters are scheduled to embark on a protest.

According to a statement from the city on Tuesday, avoiding the area will make it easier for police to handle the planned protest effectively.

“The permission is limited to the participation of 100 members of the EFF who have pledged not to interrupt the students or the matriculation exams, which has been accepted by the judge of the Western Cape Superior Court, Siraj Desai, as enough for the protest to go ahead in terms of its ruling, “he added. the City said.

On Tuesday, the EFF warned in an official tweet that it would “go down and make sure nothing works” on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Western Cape Department of Education has arranged for matrices to write their Physical Science test on Friday, while tests for grades 8-11 will be rescheduled.

Parents will be allowed to drop off their children at school.

The protest stems from violent attacks that erupted on the street leading to Brackenfell High last Monday between Brackenfell residents and EFF supporters, following a private tuition event allegedly only attended by white students.

The school’s governing body requested an urgent injunction to stop the EFF protest, but Judge Desai did not grant it urgently last Tuesday.

EFF supporters are expected to protest Friday morning.

“During a community meeting this week, it was reported that a comprehensive operational plan has been established between SAPS, the Metropolitan Police, law enforcement and traffic along with the relevant Community Police Forums (CPF) and Neighborhood Watch (NHW).” declared the City. .
