JOHANNESBURG – A Johannesburg mall manager who ordered a man in traditional Ndebele garb to leave “his mall” has been suspended.
Redefine Properties has suspended Jose Maponyane, the manager of the Boulders Mall in Midrand with immediate effect.

Ndebele activist Thando Mahlangu, who was wearing his traditional garb inside a Clicks store, was ordered to leave after being told his clothing was indecent.
The interaction was captured on video and went viral online.

The owners of the Boulders shopping center, Redefine Properties, said the center manager had been suspended pending an internal investigation into the matter.
In a statement, the real estate company said it had distanced itself from the degrading and unworthy way in which Maponyane treated Thando Mahlangu.
Redefine Properties also apologized not only to Mahlangu but also to the Ndebele nation.
He said that it will strengthen diversity training in all its centers.
Meanwhile, in a statement, Clicks said it was embarrassed by the center’s manager’s conduct and would file a formal complaint against the mall.
