Pretoria – Police are investigating a murder and attempted burglary case after a 62-year-old man shot and killed one of three intruders at his home in Boschkop, east of Pretoria.

SAPS spokesman Capt Kay Makhubela said the incident took place last weekend.

“The man was at home when the alarm went off. It is alleged that he woke up to see three men breaking into his home. It is further alleged that he yelled at the suspects, but they continued to enter. “

The owner, according to Makhubela, then shot at the suspects while asking neighbors for help.

“When the neighbors arrived and searched, they found an unknown man dead. The police were called and a case of attempted burglary and murder was opened. No one has been arrested yet and the matter is under investigation. “

Police also said more than 1,200 people were arrested over the weekend, in the first of a multi-disciplinary holiday season operation.

Captain Mavela Masondo said: “Of these arrests, more than 150 were for driving under the influence of alcohol. With these arrests, Gauteng police are sending a strong warning to those who would consider undermining the rule of law this holiday season that we will have no mercy on those who drink and drive. “

The people of Gauteng should expect more roadblocks, stops and searches, and raids on liquor outlets as the safest operations of the holiday season unfold.

More than 4,017 suspects were detained by police in the subway for crimes including murder, fraud, armed robbery, rape, burglary and robbery, possession of allegedly stolen property, reckless and negligent driving, motor vehicle theft, possession of firearms without a license. , drug trafficking and undocumented people.

In Mabopane, four cars were seized for not having valid papers, and preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicles were reported as stolen or hijacked.

“All arrested suspects are expected to appear in different magistrate courts in due course,” Masondo said.
