JOHANNESBURG – Gina Pieters, who was once a personal assistant to former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi, told the state’s capture inquiry commission on Wednesday morning that she had strict instructions to ensure that birthday baskets and recovery will be sent to former Cabinet Minister Nomvula Mokonyane.
Pieters said Agrizzi instructed him to send him the baskets of him and the late Bosasa CEO Gavin Watson and that they were paid for by the company accused of corruption.
He said that if he forgot, Agrizzi would remind him.
Pieters was Agrizzi’s AP from May 2004 to February 2017.
Commission Chairman and Supreme Court Vice Chairman Raymond Zondo asked: “Did you understand why there seemed to have been an emphasis by Mr. Agrizzi that when he sent these cards, there should be no reference to Bosasa?”
“Yes, I understood that it was not about compromising the individual,” Pieters said in response.
Mokonyane has denied the allegations.
She testified before the commission in August that Agrizzi’s accusations were insulting and accused him of attacking her because she is a woman.
