LOS ANGELES (AP) – Borat is back, and the fictional Kazakh journalist’s new film spells bad news for Holocaust deniers, Donald Trump supporters and the president’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani.

Borat Post Movie, which premieres Friday on Amazon Prime, is the sequel to Sacha Baron Cohen’s 2006 smash hit, which grossed $ 260 million, garnered an Oscar nomination and spawned countless poorly-rated slogans.

Filmed in secret this summer as the coronavirus lockdown in the United States was eased, the follow-up again sees British comedian Baron Cohen mislead the public and politicians through his clumsy and highly offensive reporter alter ego.

While the plot is under wraps, news of Baron Cohen’s latest scandalous ambushes has started to spread, with Giuliani admitting in July to being set up for a fake “interview” in a hotel room with an attractive and flirty young woman.

In the film, the encounter appears to leave the 76-year-old former mayor of New York in an extremely compromising situation, literally trapped with his hands in his pants.

The representatives did not respond to a request for comment from AFP, but Giuliani previously told the New York Post he had thought the meeting was a serious interview about the Trump administration’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Only later did I realize that it must have been Sacha Baron Cohen. I thought of all the people he cheated on before and I felt good about myself because he didn’t understand me,” Giuliani told the publication, adding that he was a “fan of some of his movies. “

Giuliani, a close Trump ally who delivered the president’s speech to accept his party’s nomination in August, is far from the only Republican target the film left flushed.

Baron-Cohen described in a recent TIME opinion piece how he feared for his life after crashing at a gun rights rally in Washington state over the film.

The film’s flexible premise sees Borat, disgraced by the events of the first film, offering him the opportunity to redeem himself and his country by presenting a gift to Vice President Mike Pence, who also appears briefly in the film.

‘SALUTE TRUMP’

A viral marketing campaign is underway, including a parody of the Kazakh government’s Twitter account with messages including “We salute Trump for crushing COVID given to him by the Democrats” and congratulate “Vice Pussygrabber Mikhael Pence” on his acting in the debate.

Baron Cohen appeared in character Monday on Jimmy Kimmel’s late night show, questioning the comedian with a “normal Kazakh plague quiz” before conducting an unorthodox physical exam on his host for coronavirus.

While Kimmel was in the gag, many of Baron Cohen’s victims in the film are once again unwitting members of the public.

Multiple subjects from the original, including a pair of cheeky drunk college students, sued the filmmakers for ripping them off into appearing in the film.

The follow-up film is already the subject of a lawsuit for the estate of a Holocaust survivor who passed away this summer, shortly after a small mock documentary crew filmed it talking to Baron Cohen.

Judith Dim Evans appears in the film to educate Borat about the Holocaust and is presented in a positive light.

“Upon learning after giving the interview that the film was actually a comedy meant to poke fun at the Holocaust and Jewish culture, Ms. Evans was horrified and angered,” the lawsuit filed by her daughter and seen by AFP reads. .

Baron Cohen, who is Jewish, is an outspoken activist against anti-Semitism and conspiracy theories, particularly against their spread on social media platforms.
