The local team won 37-17 after leading 17-7 at halftime.

The bonus points victory moves WP to second on the record, four points behind the table-leading Bulls.

The home team started their onslaught early when hooker Bongi Mbonambi passed for the game’s first try in the ninth minute after a powerful rolling maul.

WP middle Tim Swiel added the extras from the kicking tee and then added another penalty to give the hosts a 10-0 lead.

On a hot afternoon at the famous Cape Town venue, center Dan du Plessis was next to cross the line and Swiel converted again to extend the lead to 17 points with 25 minutes played.

Kimberley’s men desperately needed a way back before the halftime break and they got it when wing Eduan Keyter ran over and Tinus de Beer added the two points to make it 17-7 at half-time.

De Beer brought his team closer to seven points when the elevated middle converted a penalty early after the break, but then there was traffic one way from there.

WP scored three more attempts to seal the win, Mbonambi scoring his second of the afternoon followed by five points for wing Jaco Coetzee and replacement hooker Chad Solomon.

Twiel only converted one of the conversions in the second half, but with a 34-10 lead the damage was done.

Griquas got a consolation attempt with the horn through Sibabalo Qoma, but it was too late as WP ran out of comfortable winners.
