Springbok Coach Jacques nienaber has given an update on preparations for the Lurking Test Season.
South African rugby players recently returned to contact training and the Boks are scheduled to play in the Rugby Championship in Australia between November 7 and December 12.
Through a column for the latest edition of Springbok MagazineNienaber said that he and his backroom staff have been working hard during the coronavirus shutdown.
He said he was also on the lookout for the Super Rugby Aotearoa from New Zealand and Super Rugby AU from Australia events.
“It was great to see the full-blown action from Super Rugby Aotearoa between the five New Zealand teams, where the Crusaders once again demonstrated their dominance despite great competition from fellow Kiwi rivals.
“The Australian version was equally good to watch, not only to see some rugby competitions live, but it also gave us valuable insight into what these two countries have to offer from a national and international competition perspective.
“From our point of view, the Springbok coaching staff has obviously taken a more than interested eye on the action in both countries as we plan for the rest of the season,Nienaber wrote.
Bok’s mentor added that he was pleased to see Springbok players overseas back in action.
“We are delighted to see several of our current Springboks, as well as a good number of players that we have deployed to a larger training group, having returned to action in the Northern Hemisphere.”
“So while we look forward to hearing about our plans for the remainder of the year here in South Africa very soon, the Springbok coaching staff is continuing our planning and logistical preparations on several fronts.”
Nienaber said technology has allowed them to keep up with the progress of players.
“Fortunately, virtual meetings today make it easy and convenient to gather a large group of players online at regular intervals where the training, medical and conditioning staff can interact with them to discuss various important aspects of our Springbok preparations, such as analysis, training and recovery. and protocols, nutritional requirements, etc.
“At the local level, despite being out of action since mid-March, I think the players have done a very good job when you look at the dedication and courage that they stuck to their individual training schedules during the lockout.
“As coaches at Bok, we are as eager as they are to get back into action, which we hope will happen soon, and once our franchises are back in competitive action (obviously considering government regulations), hopefully we’ll be in a position to resume some form of test action in green and gold. “
