Two bogus officials have been jailed for issuing bogus PDR development contracts.
On Monday, two bogus government officials were sentenced in Harrismith Magistrates Court for issuing bogus RDP housing contracts to developers. In the process, the developers lost more than R500,000.
Sabata James Ramalitse, 59, and Rathebe Samson Raboteng, 42, posed as government officials and issued bogus RDP construction contracts to developers in the eastern Free State 12 years ago, the Hawks spokeswoman said. , Lynda Steyn.
The Hawks’ serious business crime investigation revealed that, from September 1, 2008, to July 30, 2010, the couple posed as government officials. They then reached out to developers and offered them contracts to build RDP houses in Harrismith, Phuthaditjhaba, Kestell and Bethlehem after they were convinced to pay a cash management fee to qualify.
It was later discovered that these contracts never existed, causing the developers to lose more than R500,000.
The two were arrested on July 27, 2010, and consequently made multiple appearances in Harrismith Magistrates Court, resulting in their convictions on four counts of fraud in March last year.
On Monday, the court sentenced Ramalitse to 14 years in prison, while Raboteng was sentenced to eight years.
