Marcos Rojo is attracting the interest of Boca Juniors in Argentina.
TyC Sports reports that Boca is eager to sign Rojo and a move could be permanent in lieu of a loan.
Boca cannot add more loan players to its Copa Libertadores team according to the rules of the competition.
They are desperate to win the continental competition for the first time since 2007 and would want Rojo to play in it.
So, as TyC Sports reports, Boca is proposing to Rojo to terminate his contract with United so he can sign as a free agent.
This would be an arrangement that would suit United. He has not played a Red Devils game in 2020.
He was loaned out to Estudiantes last January, but injury and then a lockout meant he only played once.
Rojo played an under-23 match for United earlier this season, but was not registered with the Premier League team.
He would have to accept a pay cut to join Boca, but this will come anyway when his contract expires in June. United will not accept the option to extend it one more year.
Instead of moving
Rojo is already in Argentina, having flown there for the holidays and the New Year, reports Ole newspaper.
The newspaper reports that Rojo is close to Boca’s vice president, Juan Román Riquelme, and this could help facilitate a move.
An agreement has not yet been advanced, although Boca has the desire to make it happen.
It is not clear how Rojo feels about the possibility of terminating his contract with United, with the alternative that he signs on loan and only plays the league competition and not the Libertadores.
The Mail also reports on Sheffield United news and referral interest. However, a return to Argentina appears to be Rojo’s most likely option.
