Access to the roads leading to Table Mountain National Park has been closed due to the influx of Capetonians taking advantage of Level 4 lockdown regulations that allow them to exercise for three hours in the morning.
Under Level 4, previously strict regulations were relaxed to allow the public to exercise between 06:00 and 09:00, within a 5 km radius of their homes.
It prompted numerous locals to try exercising within Table Mountain National Park, although the area remains closed during the Level 4 blockade.
While spokesman for South Africa’s National Parks, King Thakhuli, was unable to provide an estimate of the number of Capetonians who attempted to access the park, he said “the rangers have had their hands full in the past two days.”

He added that rangers were abused by several people who were rejected.
“The South African National Parks understand that the public misses their national parks. Unfortunately, the national parks remain closed despite the reduction of the blocking restrictions to Level 4,” said Thakuli.
“Therefore, access by all members of the public to national parks is still prohibited, despite the terms of Regulation 24 of the Disaster Management Act, which allows walking, running or cycling between 6 in the morning and 9 in the morning, within a radius of 5 km radius of their place of residence. “
