A car driver was attacked on Wednesday morning and several main routes blocked in Gauteng when taxi operators went on strike over pending payments from the Covid-19 relief fund for their industry.
With the hashtag #Taxistrike trending on Twitter, a number of incidents are being reported, with some passengers seen being kicked and forced off buses.

Blockades are being reported in areas including:
- Van der Hoffweg near Hornsnek
- Mahem / Kirkney in both directions
- Zambesi / Moloto / Cullinan Crossing
- R80 in both directions through Akasia and Rosslyn
- N4 direction PTA from Bronkhorstspruit and Donkerhoek
- Hans Strydom / Solomon Mahlangu and Pretoria road
- Road N1 and Botha
- N1 and R21 from OR Tambo airport
- N1 north by 14de avenue JHB
- N1 and Nasrec
- R21 north to Olofantsfontein road
- N1 north on Beyers Naude road, Randburg
- N4 Daimond Hill plaza in both directions
- PTA / Delmas Pad
- British N4
- R101 Hammanskraal

The purpose of the march is to deliver a memorandum of complaints to Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula and President Cyril Ramaphosa, in light that the taxi association has not received any of the more than 1 billion rand in relief funds. Covid-19 that Mbalula promised. during the confinement in June.
