Cape Town – Black First Land First (BLF) says it has opened a criminal case against President Cyril Ramaphosa related to donations from the CR17 campaign.
“Ramaphosa has concealed his donors to seemingly hide the current conflict of interest emanating from those who gave him R1 billion to win the presidency of the ANC,” BLF said in a statement Monday.
BLF believes that the main beneficiary of Mooikloof Mega City, Balwin Properties, may be the donor that Tony Leon allegedly gave President Ramaphosa a donation of R30 million for the CR17 campaign.
” BLF will alert the Hawks investigating officer to investigate whether Balwin Properties is in fact the R30 million donor of CR17.
BLF also notes that Balwin Properties is not a BBBEE compliant company. Also, it appears that your BBBEE certificate has expired. These problems will be investigated and the necessary measures will be taken.
“What is clear to BLF is that all donors to CR17 can violate the law with impunity while their identities remain hidden.”
On Sunday, Ramaphosa launched the Mooikloof Mega Residential City project east of Pretoria.
The R30 billion infrastructure development project is a public-private partnership between Balwin Properties, the Gauteng government and the city of Tshwane. Upon completion, the project will have about 50,000 apartments, among others.
“The Mega City Mooikloof may end up becoming the largest sectional real estate development in the world, with land also used for schools, shops and offices,” Ramaphosa said.
He said development was something that “would help roll back the apartheid design that relegated many people to the periphery.”
Last month, the Center for Financial Intelligence presented its intention to oppose the EFF’s court request to open the documents from Ramaphosa’s CR17 campaign.
The EFF maintains that the secrecy of the private funding of the CR17 campaign fosters fertile ground for the capture of Ramaphosa, compromising his ability to independently fulfill his constitutional obligations.
