MultiChoice has renamed its DStv Now streaming service to DStv, signaling the first step towards the full launch of its standalone streaming service.
in a blog post On Thursday, October 15, MultiChoice said that once customers update their DStv Now app, the name of the platform will change to DStv.
“We have changed the name of DStv Now, but we have kept all functions the same, you can stream their channels live and see how it catches up as well,” the company said.
“If you don’t have automatic updates on your device, you can update your DStv app by going to your app store.”
The DStv streaming service is available to all DStv subscribers, no matter what package they are in, and there is no additional fee or charge to view DStv channels and shows through the online platform.
the DStv Now website it also shows the new branding, with the platform’s name change to simply “DStv.”
“It is possible for any DStv customer to watch the same channels and shows that they watch on their cable box at home, but on a device like a phone or laptop,” MultiChoice said.
Independent recording and transmission
MultiChoice said that customers can subscribe to the DStv streaming service online with their email and password.
However, they will need to provide the identification number of the DStv account holder, the smart card number or the customer number.
This means that customers will need an active DStv account to sign up for the streaming service, which was the same requirement as the original DStv Now service.
Multiple choice previously announced which would launch a standalone streaming service that will allow customers to view all the content available in their full DStv package without a satellite connection.
The rebranding of the Dstv streaming service may be the first step towards the ability to subscribe to DStv packets without a set-top box or satellite connection.
MultiChoice South Africa CEO Mark Rayner previously told MyBroadband that DStv’s standalone broadcast packages will be priced the same as satellite bouquets when launched.
“What we are trying to achieve is a set of products on multiple devices. There is no new price level for DStv if it airs, ”Rayner said.
“You still buy Premium, Compact, Access, etc., depending on what your budget allows, but just choose your access method.”
Rayner also said that once DStv’s broadcast-only offering is launched commercially, there will be an e-commerce-like registration process that asks customers to choose between a broadcast or satellite broadcast offering.
However, the same account is eligible for any content delivery medium.
Currently, customers who sign up for a new DStv account can only select set-top box deals.
It’s unclear when the standalone streaming service will launch.
