Beloved cook and television cook “Tannie” Koelsoem Kamalie is dead. She was 72 years old

Bonteheuwel’s television chef, who also published several recipe books, died Saturday, April 11, of kidney failure.

“It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Tannie Koelsoem Kamalie,” says VIA (DStv 147) in a statement Saturday night where Tannie Koelsoem appeared on two shows.

“I had the privilege of meeting my beloved Tannie Koelsoem twice. She was such an energetic and happy woman. It was more than a privilege for VIA to broadcast her show and that of Tannie Flori,” says Izelle Venter, VIA Channel Chief.

“The stories of his food, his friendship about the limits of faith and his positivity despite adversity was really the meeting point of everything VIA wanted to be. We will always be grateful for Japie Gouws, the former ATKV chief who He encouraged us to create the show. Our thoughts are with his family. “

Along with Tannie Flori Schikker, Koelsoem hosted his own cooking show, Flori in Koelsoem se Kosse on VIA and produced by Leroux Botha and Nina Swart of Afrokaans, for two seasons in 2016 and 2017.

They first rose to fame when the two shared their fascinating recipes and stories on the afternoon of the Tjailatyd at SABC RSG’s Afrikaans radio station.

In 2017, his show won an ATKV Mediaveertjie Award for Best Magazine Show and was based on his cookbook. Kook Saam Kaaps which was released in April 2016 by LAPA Uitgewers.

Her second dessert cookbook titled Soettand It was released in 2017.

“She had a specific place in her kitchen in Bonteheuwel where she always sat,” says Nina Swart. “From there she could see everything and hold her hand firmly over everything. She and her daughter Gadija gave that life to the kitchen. It was the heart of the house, of her community, and if she was lucky enough to visit there, the heart of your whole world during the time you were there. “

Afrokaans executive producer Handrie Basson says, “Tannie Koelsoem was an example to all of us of generous humanity. She may have been small in stature but her heart was big and full of love for her people and her community.”

“Our team of African Americans had the privilege of working with Tannie Koelsoem and Tannie Flori. Like their food, every moment we spent with them was wonderful, healthy, and enjoyable. We will miss Tannie Koelsoem terribly and appreciate the beautiful memories.”
