Morgan Shivhambu will remain the team’s assistant while Mongezi Bobe’s future is still being finalized.
The Black Leopards have appointed former Simba SC coach Patrick Aussems as their new coach ahead of the 2020-21 PSL season.
The Belgian coach has agreed to a three-year contract with Lidoda Duvha and will arrive in the country next week.
Aussems is excited about working in South Africa; the country he has always wanted to work for and hopes to make the Leopards a mid-table club in his first season after seeing them struggle at the bottom of the record since their promotion to the elite league.
“I’ve always wanted to work in South Africa and I’m excited to start my job,” Aussems said. City press.
“PSL is the best league in Africa in terms of organization, media coverage and infrastructure.
“Obviously, for the last few seasons, the team has been struggling with relegation. So my goal will be to help them at least get to the center of the table and go up from there,” he said.
Aussems expects the next few days to be difficult due to Covid-19 coupled with the implementation of the blockade in Marseille.
“It is a very difficult situation with the virus here. The city of Marseille, where I live, is once again blocked.”
“To travel, I will have to go through a lengthy authorization and testing process,” Aussems added.
Club president David Thidiela said the administration is under pressure to please Leopards fans and its obligation is to strive to name the best man for the job.
“I’m under pressure from our fans who, incidentally, don’t get free tickets to attend our games. They spend their own money to come see the team play and fork out their hard-earned money to buy Leopards. So we try to do what is best for the club by appointing coaches who we think can take it forward, “Thidiela said in the same post.
Thidiela said the decision to sign Aussems was due to the club judging it too early to launch Morgan Shivhambu and Mongezi Bobe into the lions’ den despite their 100 percent record in relegation play-offs. / ascent.
“We’ve said before that we don’t just want to push Morgan and Mongezi to the limit. As promising coaches, they need to learn the ropes from someone experienced,” confirmed the Leopards boss.
The veteran administrator further revealed that Aussems will be assisted by Shavhambu while Bobe’s future is still being finalized.
“So Morgan will remain as assistant coach while we are still finalizing the details on Mongezi, who has done well in his first season as our MDC head coach,” he added.
