JOHANNESBURG – At least four motorists were killed in Gauteng after a series of collisions, while several others were seriously injured.
At least four separate crashes have been reported across the province over the weekend as more movement is allowed under level two of the lockdown.
Since Friday, emergency services in Tshwane responded to at least two fatal crashes involving a car and a truck.
In both accidents, the drivers of the vehicles died at the scene.
Four people are being treated at the hospital after a head-on collision in Midrand on Saturday night, scattering debris on the N1, blocking several lanes.
While two people were killed in another fatal accident in Krugersdorp, the accident is understood to have caused one of the vehicles to catch fire.
Netcare 911’s Shawn Herbst said: “Doctors found a male patient and an adult female who suffered fatal injuries and two men were treated and transported to the hospital in an ambulance.”
Herbst said investigations are underway to determine whether alcohol was a contributing factor to some of the accidents.
