Arsenal take a transfer hit as new Premier League boys close in on French star

An RMC report via Sun Sport claims Fulham has completed a medical checkup for Arsenal goal Alphonse Areola ahead of a one-season loan spell with the new Premier League team.

The 27-year-old was linked to a move by Arsenal recently like yesterday. The report had claimed that they were offering him to the Gunners as a replacement for Emiliano Martinez, who is a subject of great interest to Aston Villa.

He spent last season on loan at Real Madrid as part of the deal that brought Keylor Navas to the French capital. He returned to France, but was told that he could leave the Parisians.

The report claims that he is desperate to keep his spot on the French Eurocup team next year and has seized the opportunity to join Fulham, where he hopes to compete for the number one jersey.

Arsenal have been busy in this transfer window but have yet to decide which of their goalkeepers will be their first choice.

Martinez is currently competing with Bernd Leno, who was the former undisputed number one.

Arsenal want to keep them both happy, but Martinez will ask to leave if he is not number one.
