Durban – Police are investigating a robbery case after a gang of heavily armed men broke into a jewelry store in Gateway on Sunday morning.
The men reportedly managed to flee the scene in two vehicles.
Tyron Powell of Marshall Security said the robbery took place shortly before 10 a.m.
He said no injuries were reported.
Gateway Marketing Manager Michelle Shelley confirmed the theft had taken place.
“An undisclosed amount of merchandise was taken by the suspects. No tenants or customers were injured during the incident. Mall security and the South African Police Service (SAPS) responded immediately to the scene. The safety of our buyers and Los Tenants are of the utmost importance to Gateway and we are working with SAPS to assist in this investigation. The area has been secured, “Shelley said.
At the beginning of the year, two men were injured in a robbery in the same shopping center.
At the time, it was reported that the men fell after jumping from a higher floor.
Netcare 911 spokesman Shawn Herbst said that when doctors arrived, they treated two men who had suffered serious injuries.
“Reports from the scene allege that three adult men were being pursued by mall security when they are believed to have jumped from the first floor. One adult man sustained serious injuries and was treated at the scene by an advanced life support paramedic. The second patient suffered moderately wounded injuries and was treated at the scene, “he said.
Herbst said both men were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital for further treatment.
