JOHANNESBURG – Former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi is in serious condition after suffering cardiac arrest.
Agrizzi, who is due to go to trial for corruption, was rushed to the hospital following a decision by the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court to deny him bail last week.
His attorney, Daniel Witz, confirmed Eyewitness news on Thursday morning Agrizzi was resuscitated by hospital staff.
Agrizzi’s lawyers were expected in Johannesburg High Court on Monday to try to secure bail for him. He faces corruption charges alongside former African National Congress (ANC) deputy Vincent Smith, who was recently granted bail of 30,000 rand.
Prosecutors successfully defended the denial of Agrizzi’s bail and revealed that he had not declared millions in investments abroad and that he could flee the country.
Witz said Tuesday that he was admitted to an intensive care unit as he continued to struggle with respiratory complications.
Witz will represent the businessman in court to have his bond dismissed, and said Agrizzi deserved it.
“Mr. Agrizzi’s application for bail was dismissed. At this time last week, we were waiting for the superior court to give us a date to argue the appeal and since then they have provided us with a date for Monday, October 26, “he said.
He said that if something were to happen to his client, the government could lose crucial evidence related to the state capture.
