Actress Angelina Jolie has urged Congress to include more families in the food assistance program called the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), as children go hungry.
Jolie, in her letter to Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has pointed out that more parents should undergo SNAP to make sure children don’t go to bed hungry.
The actress wrote: “Many people have lost their jobs and daily wage workers are severely affected by the coronavirus crisis. Jolie claims that children whose parents have lost their sources of income have not received nearly 740 million meals at schools around the world. The United States has been closed due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. “
Last month, the United States Department of Agriculture announced that the benefits of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program had increased by 40 percent.
