JOHANNESBURG – The African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) has demanded the release of the pension funds of its president and former Minister of Social Development Bathabile Dlamini.
The league told reporters during a news conference on Friday that Dlamini trusted its national executive committee with details behind the saga, which it described as cheap politics.
Dlamini was not reelected to the cabinet by President Cyril Ramaphosa after the 2019 national elections.
This week, the Department of Justice revealed that the former minister’s pension was blocked by order of the South African Social Security Agency, but did not give a reason for this, it was known to both parties involved.
Dlamini also owes thousands to the civil organization Black Sash after the Constitutional Court ruled that she was responsible for 20% of the legal costs incurred in a matter that the organization and Freedom Under Law brought against her while she was a minister for failing to appoint a service. provider to distribute social grants.
ANCWL Secretary General Meokgo Matuba said that no woman should be subjected to the treatment that its president has undergone.
