JOHANNESBURG – The African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) said it would only discuss its meeting with former President Jacob Zuma after their meeting and also called on its mother body to bridge the “gap” between current and former presidents.
The league held a press conference on Friday after its national executive committee meeting, saying it was visiting former leaders of the former liberation movement.
Zuma, who has defied a Constitutional Court order to return to the witness stand at the state capture commission, has further polarized an already divided ANC, with some starting to attack the judiciary.
The ANCWL said it did not want to be seen as a mobilization against the judiciary.

Its president Bathabile Dlamini has explained that the movement used to play the role of being the last defense of human rights and dignity.
The ANCWL has pointed to several problems that further weaken its mother body, including the state capture commission and criticism of the judiciary.
He has defended his own position by insisting that there must be room for the battle of ideas in the country as this deepens its democracy.
Dlamini said: “Pretending that we are perfect will make us make unnecessary mistakes.”
While the league cited the state capture commission as a problem, it declined to elaborate on the matter, saying this would be on its agenda when it meets with Zuma.
Dlamini said the Women’s League would only share its thoughts after the meeting is over.
The Women’s League has not set a date for the meeting with the former president, but said the media would be invited.
