ANC to decide on the future of Masuku

JOHANNESBURG – The fate of Gauteng Health MEC Bandile Masuku hangs by a thread this weekend when the ANC meets in the province.

The party will consider a report from the Provincial Integrity Commission that found that Masuku failed to exercise adequate oversight of the PPE contracts awarded by his department.

This relates to a 125 million rand tender awarded to the husband of the presidential spokesperson, Khusela Diko.

But the MEC plans to launch a counterattack.

Masuku has already written a letter to the commission objecting to its findings.

The report found that Masuku did not influence the tender or benefit financially from it.

But it is the question of oversight of PPE tenders that remains unresolved.

A political analyst says the letter from the MEC challenging the Integrity Commission report should come as no surprise.

“He will always be subject to the internal politics of the party,” Ongama Mtimka said.

“Both in terms of the responses to his work, but equally in terms of executing his work. The colleagues who are in charge of it also have vested interests in the developments of the party.

Mtimka says that despite this, the Commission is playing an important role.

“It’s an important structure in the ANC body politic. Especially in responding to public pressure. And if you look at where the loss of party support is, it’s about the perceptions that, which allows or actually creates the political framework for corruption in the country “.

Gauteng’s prime minister, who is also the president of the ANC, says he hopes the meeting will send a clear message.

“I am looking forward to that ANC meeting where the ruling party of this province will be able to make decisions,” said Prime Minister David Makhura.

“[We] it will be able to show that the ANC is very consistent in the way it deals with embezzlement and corruption issues. “

If Masuku is not satisfied with the PEC’s decision, he can challenge it in the national party structures.
